Presented in this lot is a stunning military document from Civil War America signed by President Abraham Lincoln, Secretary of War Edwin Stanton, and Adjutant General Lorenzo Thomas. This historic document promotes John Mix to Second Lieutenant in the 2nd United States Cavalry Regiment. According to the document, Mix was appointed to his post on August 14th, 1861 and was later certified by the new president Abraham Lincoln on February 6th, 1862. Mix, who took a bullet to the knee in Virginia in 1864, served valiantly in the 2nd Cavalry Regiment for nearly 30 years. His service to the United States Army was referred to as “untiring and zealous” by Gettysburg hero John Buford Jr., a Major General in the United States Army during the Civil War. This offered document shows military designs on the vellum and features a blue paper seal still affixed to the venerable document. The signatures of President Lincoln and Secretary Stanton are written in black pen below the text of the document, which was signed on February 6th, 1862. Thomas’ signature is present on the top of the document near red pen writing. This historic document comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA grading the signatures an exhilarating Nr. MT+ 7.5.
