Offered in this lot are two rare 1868 season passes to the Washington, D.C. based Olympic Baseball Club and National Baseball Club. The Washington Nationals were one of the earliest ballclubs in the District of Columbia, founded in 1859, and they would go on to play two seasons in the National Association in the early 1870’s. The Nationals were a barnstorming squad, traveling around the eastern United States while taking on all competition. The Nationals could hold their own with any outfit, defeating the Chicago Excelsiors by a score of 49-4 and the Cincinnati Red Stockings 53-10 in the late 1860’s. The Nationals pass has been encapsulated and graded a GOOD 2(MK) by PSA (21062704).
The second pass in this lot is for the 1868 Olympic Baseball Club of Washington, D.C. The Olympics were a founding member of the National Association, finishing the inaugural 1871 season in fifth place with a 15-15 record in what is widely regarded as the first season of professional baseball in America. This pass has been encapsulated and graded a GOOD 2(MK) by PSA (21062705).
