Presented here is a check signed by the 23rd President of the United States, Benjamin Harrison. The grandson of the ninth President, William Henry Harrison, Benjamin Harrison served between the two non-consecutive terms of Grover Cleveland. A Republican, Harrison’s presidency lasted from 1889 to 1893, during which time six states were added to the growing Union.
This check is dated to July 13th, 1875, at which time Harrison was practicing law and earning money as a public speaker, often campaigning for Republican political candidates. This check, for the value of $175.00, was issued by Fletcher & Sharpe’s Bank of Indianapolis. Harrison signed the bottom right hand corner of the check in black pen. This check has been encapsulated and graded a MINT 9 by PSA/DNA (83939271).
