Presented here is a check signed by the 23rd President of the United States, Benjamin Harrison. The grandson of the ninth President, William Henry Harrison, Benjamin Harrison served between the two non-consecutive terms of Grover Cleveland. A Republican, Harrison’s presidency lasted from 1889 to 1893, during which time six states were added to the growing Union.

This check is dated to August 8th, 1877, shortly after Harrison was defeated in the Indiana gubernatorial race by James D. Williams. The check is for the value of $2.25. It was issued by the Fletcher & Sharpe’s Bank of Indianapolis. Harrison signed the bottom of the check in black fountain pen. There is a small rip in the middle of the check, but it does not impinge upon the signature in any way. The check is matted in a framed 14 x 22 inch display case, along with a portrait of Harrison. This item comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (AC03351).
