Graded VG-EX 4 by PSA. Hall of Famer. This is one of four examples at its tier (with six graded higher) among a total census of twenty-nine PSA-graded copies. The best-known of all 19th Century players, Cap Anson was the first batter to achieve 3,000 hits. In his 22 years in the National League, Anson hit more than .300 in all but two years, and in 1881 he hit .399. Although Anson was a line-drive "singles" hitter, the superstar did hit 21 home runs in 1884. (As it happened, the left field fence that he was shooting for in Lake Front Park was only 180 feet from home plate during that one year!) As an innovative manager who was the first to institutionalize preseason training, he guided the White Stockings to five pennants. This black-bordered Anson treasure reveals only natural corner and edge wear, an unstained surface, and a jet-black reverse. This is a classic card of a superb player, boasting clean Very Good to Excellent condition.
