Offered here is a vintage team photograph of the 1899 Louisville Colonels featuring Hall of Famers Honus Wagner, Rube Waddell, and Fred Clarke. The Colonels posted a record of 75-77 for ninth place in the National League during their last season, as owner Barney Dreyfuss would purchase the Pittsburgh Pirates and fold the Colonels after the 1899 season. The 1899 Colonels found themselves with a record of 15-37 after 52 games but finished the year strong by going 60-40 during their last 100 games, setting the groundwork for what would become a strong Pirates team for many years after.

This presented vintage team photo measures 5 1/2 x 9-inches and features 20 members of the 1899 Louisville Colonels. The unmistakable Honus Wagner appears in the center of the team photo. 20 members of the 1899 team are included in this photograph, including Hall of Famers Rube Waddell and Fred Clarke, as well as Topsy Hartsell, Bill Magee, Malachi Kitteridge, Tommy Leach, (sic) Phillipi, Billy Clingman, Bert Cunningham, Walt Woods, George Decker, Deacon Phillippe (spelled as 'Phillipi' on the photo), Charlie Dexter, Doc Powers, Claude Ritchey, Harry Croft, Pete Dowling, and Dummy Hoy. The player names are located on the bottom portion of the photograph with "LOUISVILLE BASEBALL CLUB, 1899" in black. The photo rests on a green piece of cardboard that measures 10 x 8-inches. The back of the photo features a "Brooklyn Daily Eagle" headline affixed to the back of the photograph. Numerous faded inscriptions are located on the back of the cardboard, with "WAGNER WADDELL CLARKE" appearing in pencil across the bottom portion. "LOUISVILLE CARDINALS 1899 FRED CLARK" is inscribed on the top of the rear of the cardboard in pencil. The photo displays minor elements of cornering and edging and slight wrinkling on the top-right corner. The cardboard matte contains elements of cornering and edging. A vintage photograph of the team that was the precursor to the 1900 Pittsburgh Pirates and a glimpse into the history of Major League Baseball that will surely appeal to lovers of baseball.
