Offered here is a seldom-encountered, 3-1/2” x 5-1/2” photo postcard picturing the 1906 Chicago White Sox. Its image is clear and well-focused, revealing White Sox owner Charles Comiskey dominating the center in his dapper suit and trademark fedora. Hall of Fame hurler Ed Walsh is seated at far left in the front row. Each team member pictured is identified in white print below the posed lineup, and the bottom left corner displays the manufacturer's information, "Copyright 1906 By Geo. R. Lawrence Co - Chicago #8229." The piece carries marginal notations in ink, as well as natural wear consistent with postal use (cancelled October 16, 1906). The 1906 World Series matched the Chicago Cubs, winners of a record 116 games, against their cross-town rival White Sox. On paper, the Series looked like a one-sided contest, but on the strength of solid pitching and fielding, the 1906 White Sox shocked the baseball world: they defeated the Cubs in six games to capture the first World Championship in the franchise's history.
