Although the caption on the front of this captivating postcard declares that the pictured team is the Chicago Cubs of 1907, the observer is actually viewing the Chicago Cubs of 1906. (In the fashion of the times, these men who won it all at the end of 1906 were regarded as the reigning champions of the National League through the course of 1907, hence the "Champions 1907" terminology.) The 1906 copyright date and publisher's name ("F.P. Burke") appear below the photo, along with name identification highlighting such stars as Frank Chance, Johnny Evers, Joe Tinker, Ed Reulbach, Three-Finger Brown and Johnny Kling. The piece carries marginal notations in ink, as well as natural wear consistent with postal use (cancelled November 20, 1906).
