Graded 20 FR 1.5 by SGC. Hall of Famer. This is the only copy at this tier (with one graded higher) among a total of just four examples recorded in SGC’s census reporting. Offered is an attractive, postally used example from the Rose Company's classic 1908 postcard issue, depicting the Philadelphia Athletics' star hurler Eddie Plank. The 3-1/2" x 5-1/2" card features a black-and-white, Carl Horner portrait surrounded by embossed gold decoration, with the player's name and team affiliation placed as a caption. Mild wear at the corners (and at a few edge spots) does not affect the vividly detailed likeness at the card's center, which presents at a level much higher than the assigned grade. The reverse carries an address in black fountain pen, along with a U.S. postage stamp and a full cancellation dated July 27, 1910. Here is one of the most sought-after of all baseball postcards, a collectible that's highly prized for its beauty as well as its renowned scarcity. Nominally Fair condition.
