“Never throughout history has a man who lived a life of ease left a name worth remembering” President Theodore Roosevelt once remarked, and the former Assistant Secretary of the Navy and Rough Rider lived a life of action and purpose, leading his men up San Juan Hill during the Spanish American War. Roosevelt served two terms as President, from 1901-1909 and presided over the modernization of the Navy, sending the Great White Fleet around the globe to display America’s increasing Naval power, under the guise of “Speak softly, but carry a big stick.”
Presented here is a 13 ½ x 18 ½ -inch presidential appointment signed by former President Theodore Roosevelt. This document was signed on May 1st, 1908, for a promotion of one Henry L. Brown to Captain in the Medical Corps. The promotion took effect on April 23rd, 1908 and was signed by both Acting Secretary of War and Theodore Roosevelt in black ink at the bottom of the document. The document still contains the blue seal of the Secretary of War on the bottom left corner and document contains some elements of toning and some creasing on the edges. The presidential appointment signed by former President Theodore Roosevelt comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (Y01682) for the signature.
