Graded 20 FR 1.5 by SGC. Hall of Famer. This piece stands among a total census, across all grade levels, of just six examples validated by SGC. A 20-year-old at the time hoping to forge a career in professional baseball, Casey Stengel is depicted here as an undistinguished minor leaguer. His star rose quickly, though, and two years later he claimed a spot on the Brooklyn Dodgers' roster – thus embarking on a lifetime of big league accomplishment. During those few early years, however, Stengel figured briefly on the roster at Maysville, a team chartered in the provincial Blue Grass League. It was in this capacity, as a fledgling outfielder, that he was routinely included in Old Mill's enormously ambitious photographic chronicle of minor league subjects (who hailed primarily from the tobacco-growing regions). The offered example boasts a splendid and clear likeness of the future field manager. Although the very scarce relic's physical condition is consistent with its professional assessment – on the basis of light, transparent stains, edge/corner faults, and unobtrusive wrinkles – its presentation quality remains remarkably sound and fully alluring. An extremely elusive and desirable, regionally distributed collectible, in Fair condition.
