The Philadelphia Athletics won their first World Series title in 1910, defeating the Chicago Cubs in a five-game series. Jack Coombs won three games for the A’s, and their offense was boosted by a nine RBI series from right fielder Danny Murphy. Offered here is a ticket from Game 1 of the 1910 World Series, a 4-1 Athletics victory at Shibe Park in Philadelphia. Chief Bender pitched a masterful complete game to earn the victory, allowing three hits and one unearned run while striking out eight Cubs. Frank “Home Run” Baker went 3-4 with two RBI for the Athletics, who also picked up an RBI each from Murphy and Bender. Orval Overall ate the loss for Chicago, pitching three innings and surrendering three runs in his fifth World Series start.
