Presented is a 100-card complete set of T68 Royal Bengals "Heroes of History/Men of History" non-sports cards issued between 1911 and 1912 plus a pair of silver-backed variations (Greeley and Harvard). One of the examples (Monroe) is a silver-backed variation as well which puts the total count at three in this assembly. These colorful cards illustrate daring men (and women!) of the ages. The inclusion of thumbnail biographies on each reverse was still something of a novelty at that time, though it undoubtedly added greatly to the set's initial appeal, just as it does for today's hobbyist. Key subjects in this array include: Alexander the Great, Napoleon Bonaparte, Julius Caesar, David Crockett, Geronimo, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, William Shakespeare and Sitting Bull. Grades 10% EX, 68% VG to VG/EX, 22% lesser. Difficult to find in complete set form. According to our research, only a handful of 100-card complete sets of this issue have publically sold at auction in the past decade! As a point of reference on value, Goldin Auctions sold a similar, lesser-condition example of this set for nearly $800 in their Winter 2019 auction. Total: 102 cards.
