Featured is an original black and white photograph of the 1913 New York Giants. This picture was taken on Opening Day 1913 and the eight hitters in the Giants’ starting lineup. This 1913 season would be the franchise’s 31st season. The Giants would win the National League pennant for their third consecutive year to advance to the Fall Classic. There they faced Connie Mack’s powerful Philadelphia Athletics team. The A’s won the World Series in five games, despite Christy Mathewson’s ten-inning complete game shutout in a 3-0 Game 2 victory for the Giants. This picture, which is unframed, measures 4 x 5 inches. This photograph features minimal signs of wear on the edges. There are several notes and stamps on the back of the photograph. An unknown author wrote the names of the eight Giant starters, which included the infamous Fred Merkle, on the back of the photograph.
