In 1913, the Philadelphia Athletics won their third World Series title, capping off a dynastic run that began with the 1910 World Series title. Stuffy McInnis, Eddie Collins, Frank Baker, and Jack Berry, the quartet of players known as the “$100,000 Infield”, led the offense to victory over the New York Giants in a five game World Series. The pitching staff was anchored an aging yet effective Eddie Plank and Chief Bender, who pulled double duty as both a closer (24 games finished, 13 saves) and a starter (21 starts, 14 complete games). This would be the A’s final title until 1929.
Offered here is a program from the Athletics dinner celebrating the 1913 title. It took place on October 28th, 1913, at the Bellevue-Stratford Hotel in Philadelphia. The cover of the program features a cartoon elephant dancing on the head of the statue of William Penn that tops City Hall. This program, which is bound by yellow thread, features a photograph of the 1913 A’s, a page with the night’s menu, and a page with the members of the 1913 Athletics. A yellow and blue ribbon is attached to the yellow thread. This item is in good condition.
