Offered is a 27-card collection of T222 Fatima Cigarettes cards issued by Liggett & Myers Tobacco in 1914, including Hall of Famer Rube Marquard. Advertised as a "Collection of 100 photographs of famous Baseball players, American Athletic champions and Photoplay stars," this Fatima series would be designated "T222" in the American Card Catalog. Today, we know there were a total of fifty-two different baseball subjects produced which were probably among the more popular of the assortment. These approximately 2-1/2" x 4- 1/2" cards were produced on thin photographic paper and are the first 20th Century baseball cards to offer true photographic poses of individual Major League baseball players. Includes: Baseball Players (23) - Brown, Burns, Chalmers (2), Demaree, Hamilton (trimmed), Houck (2), Leach, Maisel, Marquard, McLean, Murray, Perdue, Saier (2), Sallee, Schang, Sweeney (2), Tyler (2) and Wingo; American Athletic Champions (3) - Baker/Sprinter, Meyer/Sprinter and Muller/Sprinter; Photoplay Stars (1) - Della Connor. All but two examples (Hamilton and Sweeney) concede a hole at the top edge. While technically the cards grade PR (a few are trimmed), these delicate cards present at a much higher grade level.
