Presented here is a Type I photograph of the 1916 World Series champion Boston Red Sox taken by the legendary baseball photographer George Grantham Bain. Babe Ruth, then a star pitcher for the Red Sox, is the key attraction in this visually sumptuous photograph. Seated in the front row and flashing an easy smile, the Babe’s charisma shines through this century-old photograph. Ruth starred for the Red Sox in the 1916 World Series against the Brooklyn Robins, tossing a 14-inning complete game in the Red Sox 2-1 Game 4 victory at Braves Field. Ruth allowed only six hits in this game, even driving in the Red Sox first run of the game in the third inning.

This stunning photograph measures approximately 5 x 7 inches, and has numerous stamps and markings on the back, including “Culver Pictures, Inc. stamps. Printed on the top left in white is “RED SOX 1916” and another white print marking on the top right that reads “4016-8”. Other players pictured in this photograph include the Hall of Famers Herb Pennock and Harry Hooper, as well as the stars Carl Mays, Duffy Lewis, Ernie Shore, Dutch Leonard, and several more. This photograph presents very well, with only minor wear and tear around the edges. This photograph comes with a Type I LOA from PSA/DNA (1P03472).
