Before he was elected the 29th President of the United States, Warren Harding served as a Senator from the state of Ohio from 1915 until he ascended to the Presidency in January of 1921. This presented letter, dated June 29th, 1917, is on official United States Senate letterhead and is addressed to a Mr. E.S. Landes of Wooster, Ohio. The letter is in response to Mr. Landes letter from June 26th regarding House Resolution 5118, providing for the recognition of Osteopathic physicians in the service of the Army and Navy. Harding goes on to note the opposition to adding osteopathic physicians to the ranks of the military and how he plans to educate himself on the matter in order to make an informed decision. Harding closes the letter by stating “With an assurance of personal regards, I am, yours very truly” and signed the letter in black ink. The signature is clear and bold, and the letter contains multiple crease folds and toning on the edges.
