Presented here is a rare glimpse into the life of Former President Franklin D. Roosevelt from his time serving as the Assistant Secretary of the Navy under President Woodrow Wilson during World War I. This 8 x 10 ½ -inch letter on Official Navy Department letterhead was sent on November 16th, 1918, and was sent to Lieutenant Commander Francis A. La Roche, U.S.N., of Cocoa, Florida. The letter commanded the Lieutenant to report to Quincy, Massachusetts, and aid the Naval Inspector of Machinery in the fitting of the U.S.S. Rodgers and to be on board in command when the ship is commissioned. The letter contains numerous stamps and annotations and was signed by Roosevelt in black ink. The document contains edging on the left side, an even tone throughout, and some folding and creasing. The Naval appointment signed by former President Franklin D. Roosevelt comes with an LOA from Beckett Authentication for the signature.
