Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Hall of Famer. This is one of just two examples at its tier (none graded higher) among a total of just over sixty copies recorded in PSA’s census reporting. Here's an ultra high-grade example of Babe Ruth's W514 "strip card." Ruth had led the American League in home runs in 1918 and 1919, while a member of the Boston Red Sox. After the season, he was sold to the New York Yankees, where he once again paced the circuit in homers with 54, nearly tripling the output of his nearest competitor, George Sisler. The offered card appears to picture a swinging Ruth in his Red Sox garb, but clearly identifies him as a member of the Yankees and describes the slugger as the "Home Run King." At first glance, the card appears to be unimprovable, as it boasts superb centering, robust corners and radiant colors. A close, unforgiving examination finds an evanescent trace of wear at the bottom-left corner's tip. This is an outstanding example from an important transition period in Ruth's great career, a time that saw few collectible cards emerge to celebrate his budding glory. Near Mint to Mint condition.
