Encapsulated and assessed "Authentic" by PSA. This is one of just four examples, in total, recorded in PSA's census reporting. In the final employment of an experimental best-of-nine format, the New York Giants and New York Yankees (making their first postseason appearance) squared off in the 1921 World Series. The full schedule for the '21 Series was played in the Polo Grounds as the contenders – Yankees and Giants – both played their regular-season home games there; the two teams alternated roles as "hosts" and "visitors." While it marked the first-ever Fall Classic in which the combatants shared the same venue, the Yankees were not long for the Harlem ballpark, as Babe Ruth's drawing power ultimately prompted their eviction. Offered here is a ticket stub for Game 5 of the first-ever "all-Big Apple" World Series. Ruth recorded a bunt single in the fourth inning off Art Nehf, and subsequently scored to account for Game 5's winning run. The 1921 World Series was ultimately won by the Giants, 5 games to 3. Ruth, hampered by elbow and knee injuries in the final games of the Series, went 5 for 16 (a .313 average) with one homer and 4 RBI. Goldin Auctions will be donating 5% of the winning bid price of this lot and all lots in this auction to the Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum.
