This commemorative baseball trophy was presented to the government of Mexico in 1922 “with the compliments of” American League president Ban Johnson. Johnson, a founder and the first president of the American League, dominated the Junior Circuit with an iron fist until the mid-1920’s when a clash with Kennesaw Mountain Landis eroded the power of the Norwalk, Ohio, native. Johnson was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1937 by the Centennial Committee. This offered trophy has a 3.5 x 5-inch base and is 5 inches tall. It shows a batter and catcher atop an ornate bronze pedestal displaying enameled American and Mexican flags on a white stone base. This item is in fantastic condition and is a stunning relic of baseball’s bygone era.
