Uruguayan goalkeeper Andres Mazali wore these shin guards during the 1924 Paris Summer Olympics. Uruguay became the first non-European nation to compete in the soccer tournament at the Olympic Games in 1924, bringing along a squad made up of marble cutters, musicians, and assorted amateur players. With an innovative, possession-based style of play, Uruguay confounded the more physical and direct European nations, dominating all competition before dispatching Switzerland 3-0 in a breezy gold medal match. Mazali performed admirably in goal during the tournament, surrendering only two goals in Uruguay’s five games. The offered shin guards are brown leather filled with horsehair. The shin guards are in good condition and are a fantastic offering from Uruguay’s first gold medal conquest. This item comes with a LOA confirming it is part of the Rony Almeida Soccer Collection.
