Harry Houdini was the original immigrant American success story. Born in Hungary as Erich Weiss, raised in Wisconsin, Houdini came to fame in 1899 as a first-class stage magician and later as an escape artist. His name is synonymous with the art of magic still, nearly 100 years after his death in 1926.
Offered is a typed letter signed by Houdini on his personal letterhead, in a framed display that includes a 6½ x 9½ -inch black and white, green-toned photograph of the illusionist. The 8½ x 5-inch white page is faded, but the light-blue letterhead “HOUDINI” with his mailing address in New York City appears over a letter to “Mr. E. A. Dearn” in Birmingham, England dated August 12, 1924. Houdini has signed his name in black pen at the bottom of the letter. The photo and the letter are set in an ivory paper matte with black borders, within a 13¾ x 21-inch black wood frame and glass. This item comes with a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication.
