The trailblazing Uruguayan soccer player Jose Leandro Andrade was presented with this silver medal after leading the Uruguay National Soccer Team to victory in the 1924 Paris Summer Olympics. Uruguay, the first entrants into the Olympic tournament from South America, charged their way to victory with a dynamic, passing based attack that confounded their Old World foes. Andrade, nicknamed “The Black Marvel” by fans in Paris, earned a pair of Olympic golds with La Celeste, as well as a title in the inaugural FIFA World Cup in 1930.

This offered medallion measures 1 ¼ inches in diameter and features a high relief etching of two players disputing a header. Etched on the reverse is a laurel wreath and “VIII Olympiade / Leandro Andrade / Paris 1924”. This medal is a terrific relic from the career of a true soccer icon! This item comes with a LOA confirming it is part of the Rony Almeida Soccer Collection.
