Uruguay has had its fair share of soccer heroes, although none were as instrumental in the foundation of Uruguay as a soccer power quite like Jose Nasazzi. A sturdy center back playing for Bella Vista and Nacional domestically, Nasazzi led La Celeste to Olympic gold medals in 1924 and 1928 before captaining Uruguay to the inaugural World Cup title in 1930. Known as “El Gran Mariscal" (The Great Marshal) for his commanding presence on the back line, Nasazzi earned 41 caps across 14 years for Uruguay.
Offered in this lot is a stunning offset tin plate printing of Nasazzi from the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris, France. Uruguay won each of their games in the tournament, culminating in a tactical 3-0 demolition of Switzerland at Stade Olympique in the final match. This tin plate shows Nasazzi with his left arm raised in triumph and originates from the archives of Mundo Uruguayo magazine in Montevideo. It measures 3.5 x 6 inches and is in good condition. This item comes with a LOA confirming it is part of the Rony Almeida Soccer Collection.
