Uruguay shocked Europe at the 1924 Paris Summer Olympics, claiming the soccer gold medal with a historic 3-0 win over Switzerland in their first Olympic soccer tournament. Goalkeeper Andres Mazzali was a standout performer among la celeste, allowing only two goals in the entire tournament. The Nacional shot-stopper also led Uruguay to the 1924 South American championship as the premier goalkeeper in global soccer.
This offered silver medal features a high relief etching of a man’s head on the front below an enameled French tricolour. Etched on the reverse side of the medal is “Jeux Olympiques / Paris 1924 / Andres Mazzali / Champion Du Monde”. The medal is in great condition and it comes with a letter of provenance.
