In 1924, Uruguay became the first South American nation to compete in the soccer tournament of the Olympic Games. Uruguay cut through the opposition in Paris, using a novel style of possession soccer to counter the physical, bully-ball style of play favored by the European XI’s. In the final match of the tournament at Stade Olympique, Uruguay swept aside Switzerland by a comfortable 3-0 scoreline. Offered in this lot is a unique polychrome hand-tinted postcard featuring the Celeste XI from the 1924 Olympic tournament. Notable among the Uruguay players are captain Jose Nasazzi, Jose Leandro Andrade, and goalkeeper Andres Mazali. This postcard measures 5.5 x 3.25 inches and is in good condition. This item comes with a LOA confirming it is part of the Rony Almeida Soccer Collection.
