The New York Yankees as we know them today were born in the 1920s. The Bronx Bombers claimed their first World Series title in 1923, in their first season playing in the venerable Yankee Stadium. Lou Gehrig, Babe Ruth, Earle Combs, Urban Shocker, and a cadre of additional Hall of Famers drove the Yankees to unforeseen heights, winning eight of the franchise’s 27 World Series titles in the 1920s and 1930s. Under manager Miller Huggins the Yankees transformed from New York’s doormat, forced to share a stadium with the more-popular New York Giants, into the biggest draw in baseball powered by its brightest star.

Offered here is an Official National League John Heydler baseball that has been signed by 16 members of the 1925 New York Yankees. This ball is a special rarity in that the Yankees appear on a National League baseball. All of the signatures have been signed in steel-tip blue fountain pen and features the signatures of Hall of Famers and legends Babe Ruth on the sweet spot and a rookie year Lou Gehrig on the side panel. In addition to Gehrig’s signature, the west panel has the signatures of Hank Johnson, Ben Paschal, Fred Merkle, Mark Koenig, Howie Shanks and Roy Luebbe. The north panel has the signatures of Hall of Famers Waite Hoyt and Earle Combs, with additional signatures of Charley O’Leary, Pee Wee Wanniger, Sam Jones and Wally Pip. The last two signatures are of Urban Shocker and Fred Heimach, who appear on the south panel. The signatures on this ball are light but still readable and the ball displays heavy toning with wear marks. The stampings are in good condition with light fading on the stamped sweet spot. Also included with this baseball is the original orange Spalding baseball box. The top of the box has been torn off but is still included with this lot. This multi-signed baseball comes with a LOA from JSA (Z57975) and a LOA from SGC (AB06019) for the signature.
