The conclusion of the 1926 season found the Yankees face-to-face with the St. Louis Cardinals. The former had thrice appeared in the World Series, while the Cardinals were launching their maiden voyage into October baseball. Ultimately, the Cardinals claimed victory. This clean and white OAL (Johnson) sphere carries twenty-six black ink signatures placed by members of the A.L. Champion '26 Yankees. An early rendering of Babe Ruth rests by itself on the sweet spot, the signature appearing with "Babe" in quotations. Elsewhere on the ball's surface are the pennings of Hank Severeid, Lou Gehrig, Ben Paschal, Pat Collins, Roy Carlyle, Garland Braxton, Joe Dugan, Spencer Adams, Chas. O'Leary (coach), Mark Koenig, Walter Beall, Bob Shawkey, Aaron Ward, Myles Thomas, Bob Meusel, Sam Jones, Fred Merkle, Herb Pennock, Urban Shocker, Tony Lazzeri, M.J. Huggins (Manager), Benny Bengough, Herb McQuaid, Earle Combs and one other. The ball's stampings are bold and legible. Additionally, devotees of vintage Yankee artifacts will immediately appreciate the inclusion of Urban Shocker on this ball  his is perhaps the scarcest player signature in that franchise's history. LOA from PSA/DNA LOA. Goldin Auctions will be donating 5% of the winning bid price of this lot and all lots in this auction to the Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum.
