The 1927 New York Yankees put together one of the best seasons in Major League Baseball history, going 110-44 in the regular season before eventually sweeping the Pittsburgh Pirates for the World Series title. The ’27 Yanks were fueled by their famed “Murderer’s Row” lineup consisting of Earle Combs, Mark Koenig, Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Bob Meusel and Tony Lazzeri. Throw in Hall of Fame pitchers Herb Pennock and Waite Hoyt, and it’s no wonder the Bronx Bombers dominated in such grand fashion.
Offered is an “American League” stamped Wilson baseball that has been signed by 10 members of that historic team. All of the signatures have been signed in blue pen and no 1927 Yankees baseball can be complete without the signatures of Ruth and Gehrig, and this ball has both legends’ signatures. Ruth’s distinctive signature is found on the sweet spot, while Gehrig’s signature has been penned on the adjacent side panel, along with the signatures of Ray Morehart, Bob Meusel, Mike Gazella, Hall of Famer Earle Combs, Myles Thomas and an unidentified player. The panel below Ruth’s sweet spot signature is the signatures of Walter Beall and Julie Wera. Above the Wilson stamp “May 6, 1927” is hand written in blue pen. The ball displays some toning and the “a” in “Babe” on the sweet spot is slightly faded, but Ruth’s signature is still readable. Some cracking of the leather is present, but does not diminish the quality of the signatures. This baseball comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA (V02974).
