Presented is a vintage 1927 World Series program from Yankee Stadium, when the New York Yankees hosted the Pittsburgh Pirates in the Fall Classic.  The 9 ¼ x 11-inch white paper program features a color front cover with the legend “Yankees vs. Pirates” in red type across the top, the caption “1927” in blue at the center, the captions “Miller Huggins” and “Owen J. Bush” in blue below black & white head & shoulder portraits of the two managers in suit and tie, and the legend “Worlds Championship Series” in pink across the bottom. A pair of blue baseball bats is crossed at the center between the two photos. Across the bottom, in blue type, is the caption “Harry M. Stevens, Inc. Publisher Price 25 Cents”. The first interior page features the legend “Official Souvenir Program World Series 1927” in black type across the top. The 20 interior pages include advertisements for New York area businesses as well as photos and stories about the teams in the 1927 World Series, and is in good, clean condition with no wrinkles, tears or discoloration. The interior front cover and back cover are in full color, both advertisements for cigarettes. In the 1927 World Series, the New York Yankees won, sweeping the Pittsburgh Pirates in four games. This was the first sweep of a National League team by an American League team. That year, the Yankees led the American League in runs scored, hits, triples, home runs, base on balls, batting average, slugging average and on-base percentage. It featured legends Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig at their peaks. The team won a then-league record 110 games, finished with a 19-game lead over second place, and are considered by many to be the greatest team in the history of baseball. The 1927 Pittsburgh Pirates, with MVP Paul Waner, led the National League in runs, hits, batting average and on-base percentage. As a point of reference on value, a lesser-conditioned example of this program sold for $4,500 in Goldin Auctions' Spring 2020 auction (lot #1412).
