Offered in this lot is a photograph from the 1928 Amsterdam Summer Olympics of Uruguayan referee Domingo Lombardi inspecting the woodwork at Olympic Stadium before the quarterfinal matchup between Italy and Spain. The two European nations would draw 1-1 in the quarterfinal, leading to a second leg game that saw a 7-1 Italian masterclass over La Furia Roja. This black and white photograph shows a sharply-dressed Lombardi walking along the goalmouth and inspecting the frame of the goal in front of a sparse crowd. Lombardi has signed this photograph in blue pen, inscribing “Amsterdam / 1: de Junio de 1928” above his signature. Gray pencil writing in Spanish is present on the back of this 9.5 x 7-inch photograph. This item comes with a LOA confirming it is part of the Rony Almeida Soccer Collection.
