As good as the 1927 Yankees were, that hallowed squad was only the first installment of a back-to-back World Championship dynasty. After beating back a late-season onrush by the Philadelphia Athletics, the 1928 Yankees met and wrecked the St. Louis Cardinals in the Fall Classic. For the second year in a row, Ruth & Company swept the National League’s best, further cementing their reputation as one of the greatest teams ever to take the field.
27 members of the vaunted 1928 World Series Champion New York Yankees have signed their names on this Official American League Ernest Barnard baseball. Babe Ruth’s distinct signature is on the sweet spot with Lou Gehrig’s signature on his customary side panel. Other signatures on this ball include Hall of Famers Earle Combs, Herb Pennock, Tony Lazzeri, Waite Hoyt, Leo Durocher and Miller Huggins, while notable signatures include Hank Johnson, Eddie Bennett, Joe Dugan, Fred Haimach, Pat Collins, John Grabowski, Bob Meusel, Benny Bengough, Rosy Ryan, Ben Paschal, Mark Koenig and others . This ball displays toning and has a coating of shellac that has chipped in some spots. Considering the age of this ball, the trademark stampings are bold and prominent while the majority of the signatures including Ruth and Gehrig are immediately identifiable. A truly historic and classic relic of one of the greatest teams in the history of sports that is rarely seen or offered in the marketplace. This ball comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (J86406) for the signatures.
