Presented in this lot is a stunning issue of “Uruguay Mundial” magazine featuring “The Grand Captain” Jose Nasazzi on the cover. Nasazzi, who led Uruguay to the 1924 Olympic gold medal, the 1938 Olympic gold medal, and the 1930 World Cup title, exemplified his era of soccer as a commanding center back and team leader. A marble cutter by trade, Nasazzi led Uruguay to four South American championships, winning the Best Player of the Tournament award in 1923 and 1925. Domestically, Nasazzi played for Lito, Bella Vista, and Club Nacional across 20 unparalleled years as both an amateur and professional. This offered “Uruguay Mundial” magazine is labeled as a “Unica Edicion” and features a portrait of Nasazzi on the front. The magazine features biographies of Uruguayan soccer players, as well as numerous photographs from Olympic soccer competition. Two pages of photographs are included in this magazine, however they are not currently attached to the binding. “Uruguay Mundial” is a fantastic relic from a nostalgia-laden era of soccer.
