The 1929 Philadelphia Athletics ran rough-shot through the American League en route to a 104-46 record, which was 18 games better than the New York Yankees. The A’s capped off their dominating season by defeating the Chicago Cubs in five games.
Offered is this Official American League Ernest Barnard baseball that has been signed by 16 members of the that 1929 World Champion Philadelphia Athletics’ team. George Earnshaw has signed his name across the sweet spot in bold black ink. The north panel has the signatures of Joe Boley, Carroll Yerkes (signed Lefty Yerkes), Mule Haas, George Burns, Bing Miller and Jimmy Dykes. The south panel has the autographs of one unidentified player, Jack Quinn, Hall of Famer Jimmie Foxx and Howard Ehmke. The west panel with the “Reach Stamp” has Eddie Collins’ signature, while the east panel has the signatures of Sam Hale, Hall of Famer Al Simmons and Mix Bishop. The last signature of Mickey Cochraine was stamped.
The ball displays toning due to age, but the stampings are still crisp. The Barnard stamp is in red on the panel adjacent to the “American League Ball” stamp on the sweet spot. There is a combination red and blue stitching and all of the signatures are in black. This baseball comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA (AB12569).
