Offered is a 1930 Bronko Nagurski-Chicago Bears uniform player contract signed by the Bears star, as well as legendary Chicago Bears head coach George Halas and Edward “Dutch” Sternaman. Halas and Sternaman, who played football together at the University of Illinois, were partners in the ownership of the Bears, assuming control of the franchise in 1921. Nagurski, who was an All-American at the University of Minnesota, signed his first pro football contract with Bears in 1930. This is that contract, a one-page, 8¼ x 10¾-inch gray paper sheet pre-printed in black with black typewritten amendments. Sternaman signed his name “Edw. C. Sternaman” in blue fountain pen at the lower right, followed by “Geo. S. Halas” in black fountain pen and “Bronko Nagurski” in black fountain pen. The headline “The National Football League Uniform Player’s Contract” between the “Chicago Bears Football Club, Inc.” and “Bronko Nagurski” of “Minneapolis, Minn.” specifies that the player will receive $5,000 for the 1930 season and is dated February 4, 1930. The contract was folded in thirds and has slight tears in the left margin at the folds but is otherwise clear and clean. This item comes with a LOA from the Nagurski family.
