The beloved captain of the Uruguay national soccer team, Jose Nasazzi, wore these cleats during the 1930 FIFA World Cup in Montevideo, Uruguay. Nasazzi, a marble cutter by trade, played in the center of the Uruguayan defense and led La Celeste to a host of international triumphs, including two Olympic gold medals, four South American championships, and the 1930 FIFA World Cup title. Nasazzi was retroactively awarded the 1930 World Cup Golden Ball by FIFA, naming him as the best player in the tournament some 50 years after Uruguay conquered Argentina at Estadio Centenario.

Nasazzi would go on to earn 41 caps for Uruguay and the nickname El Gran Mariscal, or the Great Marshal, for his excellency in both leadership and defense. As a player in Uruguay, Nasazzi began his career with Lito before spending a decade at Bella Vista and the final four years of his career with Club Nacional.

These offered soccer cleats are made of brown leather and are unmarked with regards to size and manufacture. The laces are missing, however the infrastructure to re-lace the shoes is present and in good condition. A leather oval bumper is sewn on the outside of each heel on these high-top cleats. Three circular cleats are present on the heel of each shoe, while the front part of the soles feature parallel bars attached to the shoes for traction. A leather strap is sewn over the toe of each cleat. These cleats are in fair condition and are a tremendous artifact from the career of one of Uruguay’s sporting heroes. This item comes with a LOA confirming it is part of the Rony Almeida Soccer Collection.
