Christy Walsh is widely acknowledged as the first sports agent, devising marketing schemes for America’s finest athletes of the early 20th century. Walsh represented Babe Ruth, Walter Johnson, Ty Cobb, and more of baseball’s best. This offered typed letter was sent to Walsh by another one of his clients, the legendary Notre Dame Fighting Irish football coach Knute Rockne. In this letter dated to June 16th, 1930, Rockne writes to Walsh about a planned European trip as well as an article to be written by Rockne about that season’s college football All-Americans. The letter is typed on official Notre Dame letterhead and is addressed to Walsh’s address at 570 Seventh Avenue in New York City. Rockne has signed the letter in black pen. The letter comes with a Letter of Provenance from a member of the Walsh family and a LOA from PSA/DNA that grades Rockne’s signature a lofty MINT 9 (S05420).
