Offered in this lot is a large medal and accompanying olive wood presentation box honoring Uruguay’s victory in the inaugural FIFA World Cup in 1930. Uruguay, the host nation, defeated a strong Argentina team 4-2 in the final match of the tournament in Montevideo’s Estadio Centenario. Uruguay were led by their captain Jose Nasazzi, with players such as Jose Leandro Andrade, Hector Castro, Pedro Petrone, and Jose Pedro Cea combining to form one of the first great international sides of the modern era.

This offered olive wood presentation box measures 21 x 15 x 5 inches and is a dark brown color. A “1930” crest is located on the lid of the box and an 8-inch medal fits snugly inside the vessel. The medal features an image of a soccer player and “Federation Francaise De Football” etched in high relief. Additionally, “MCMXXX” and “Abel La Fleur” are etched on the medal as well. This historic lot is a fantastic piece of memorabilia from the very first FIFA World Cup.
