Uruguay’s star winger Jose Pedro Cea was awarded this medal after scoring five goals in La celeste’s successful 1930 FIFA World Cup title run in Montevideo. Cea scored his fifth goal in the World Cup Final against Argentina, tying the game at 2-2 as Uruguay broke loose late to win 4-2 with goals in the 68th and 89th minutes. Etched in high relief on the front of this medal is “Primer Centenario Del Uruguay MCMXXX” and an image of two men with clasped hands in front of an angel and a woman sheltering a child. Etched on the back of the medal is “1er Campeonato Mundial De Football” and “Jose Pedro Cea Campeon Montevideo 1930”. A maker’s mark for “C. PACCAGNINI” of Milan, Italy, is present on the medal. This item comes with a LOA confirming it is part of the Rony Almeida Soccer Collection.
