Jose Nasazzi was issued this 1930 FIFA World Cup gold medal by CAFO, the Uruguayan administrative organization overseeing soccer refereeing in the country. Nasazzi captained the Uruguayans to World Cup glory in Montevideo, commanding a defense that allowed only three goals in the entire tournament. Known as “The Grand Marshall”, Nasazzi is as important to soccer in Uruguay as Babe Ruth is to baseball in North America. This offered medal features a high relief etching of a woman crowning a male soccer player on the front, while “C.A.F.O. A Jose Nasazzi Capitan” and “Julio 1930” is etched on the back of the medal. The medal is attached to a sky-blue and white ribbon. This item comes with a letter of provenance.
