Argentina’s legendary center forward Guillermo Stabile was issued this gold medal by the Asociación Uruguaya de Fútbol (AUF) after winning the Golden Boot at the inaugural FIFA World Cup in 1930. Stabile, Argentina’s backup striker heading into the World Cup, made his tournament debut in the second game for La Albiceleste against Mexico. Stabile made an instant impact, recording a hat trick against El Tri before scoring two goals in two minutes during Argentina’s final group stage game against continental rivals Chile. Stabile scored twice in Argentina’s 6-1 destruction of the United States in the semifinals, scoring Argentina’s third and sixth goals of the game in the second half. While Uruguay defeated Argentina 4-2 in the tournament final at Estadio Centenario, it was not for a lack of effort from Stabile. The Huracan star scored his eighth and final goal of the tournament in the 37th minute to give Argentina a 2-1 halftime lead before Uruguay struck back with three unanswered strikes.

Stabile earned a big money move to Europe after the tournament, joining nine-time Italian champions Genoa, for whom he scored a hat trick on his debut. Later, Stabile would play for Napoli and Red Star Paris before spending 21 years as the manager of La Albiceleste from 1939 to 1960.

This offered medal is gold in color, with a high relief etching of two soccer players contesting a headed ball in front of goal. Etched on the reverse side of the medal is “A.U. de F. / Guillermo Stabile / Goleador / Mundial 1930”. The medal has a diameter of 1.25 inches. It is in good condition. This item comes with a LOA confirming it is part of the Rony Almeida Soccer Collection.
