Babe Ruth Auction to Benefit Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/6/2016
This is an immensely captivating and thoroughly mysterious black-and-white photo of the Babe in his prime. The 2-1/2" x 5", blank-backed relic, printed on thick cardstock, was almost certainly distributed as an obscure point-of-sale premium, likely with the purchase of some type of candy. Although its exact origin remains cloaked in delightful intrigue, it’s here-and-now persona reveals a superb illustration of the Yankee hero. Clearly treasured and considered worthy of prominent display by long-ago previous owners, the attractive premium concedes general wear (including corner creases), a tack-hole near top-center, a reverse-side notation, and clear tape at the back-edge side borders. None of these faults impair the rarity's photo quality, however, and none impinge upon the collectible's inherent and aesthetic desirability. A one-of-a-kind offering! Goldin Auctions will be donating 5% of the winning bid price of this lot and all lots in this auction to the Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum.
