This baseball has been signed by a plethora of baseball’s all-time greats. The near-mythic Babe Ruth has penned his impeccable signature slightly off-center on the sweet spot. Although Ruth alone would make any baseball a must-have, numerous other Hall of Famers have placed their handwriting on this baseball, including Ruth’s longtime teammate, Lou Gehrig. As was his custom, Gehrig signed the baseball to the left of the sweet spot, allowing his more spotlight-friendly teammate to occupy the place of honor on this baseball. Additional signatures on the sweet spot include 1937 National League Triple Crown winner Joe Medwick, and Rabbit Maranville, both of whom are Hall of Famers. Other Hall of Fame signatures on this baseball include Leo Durocher, Joe McCarthy, Dizzy Dean, and Bill McKechnie. The remaining of the 23 signatures belong to Paul Dean, Dixie Walker, Bill DeLancey, Pepper Martin, Duffy Lewis, Harry Gowdy, Eddie Fletcher, Ed Brandt, Shanty Hogan, Al Spohrer, Billy Urbanski, Hal Lee, Leo Mangum, Fresco “Tommy” Thompson, and one unidentifiable signature. The signatures are of varying quality due to age, but the key signatures present beautifully. The signatures have been written in blue steel-tip fountain pen.
