By 1932 Babe Ruth was no longer a baseball player – he was an American icon. Indeed, his name had even evolved in the American vocabulary into a verb – “Ruthian” – meaning something outrageously tremendous than no one else could do. In 1932 Ruth was 37 years old, and although he wasn’t as fast as he once was, his bat still had the same pop as it had a decade before. Throughout the summer, Ruth and the Yankees battled for the pennant against an Athletics squad that had won the previous three years.

The Babe’s .341 with 41 home runs helped push the Yankees to an impressive 107 wins and the pennant. Facing a brash Chicago Cubs in the World Series, Ruth funneled all the abuse heaped on him from the opposing Cubs dugout into an offensive explosion that culminated in Game 3 when he pounded two home runs including the famed “Called Shot.” The Yankees, led by Ruth, swept the Cubs and the Babe had his seventh and final World Championship. This bat was used by the Babe in 1932 - during his last great season in the Majors.

According to PSA/DNA, there are several distinctive attributes that date this bat to Ruth’s magical 1932 season. The first is the C5-E style center brand that was only used on bats made during 1930 to 1932. The date of manufacture can be further narrowed down by the style of the “Powerized” stamping which was used on 1932 and 1933 dated bats. The combination of the center brand and “Powerized” brand leads to only a 1932 manufacturing date. Furthermore, the 34.75-inch length and 36.2 oz. weight corresponds to Ruth’s “His 4-18-32” model bat, a type he only ordered during the 1932 season. Evidence of the bat’s use by the Babe is visible on the left barrel where ball contact is grouped, a trademark of Babe Ruth gamers. Overall the bat displays outstanding use and remains un-cracked. In addition to the many ball marks on the left barrel, green bat rack paint streaks are visible. To top off an already stunning and museum-worth bat, the Babe has signed the back barrel and inscribed “From Babe Ruth” to the original recipient, along with additional inscriptions. Ruth’s signature and “From” remains legible, but the name of the recipient and additional inscriptions are no longer legible, but has been determined to have been penned in Ruth’s hand. This is an important distinction that is common on historical Ruth gamers. An incredible piece of baseball history that dates to the Babe’s last great season. The bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B13171) for the game use and has been graded a near-perfect GU 9.5. There is also a LOA from PSA/DNA (AE09266) for Ruth's signature and inscriptions. This is an incredibly rare Babe Ruth game used, signed and inscribed bat that can be pinpointed to that historic 1932 season. Ruth signed and inscribed nearly all his historical achievement bats. Although the details on the inscription have been lost to time, one can wonder what achievement during the championship 1932 season this bat represented.
