Graded 88 NM/MT 8 by SGC. Hall of Famer. Among nearly 200 copies recorded in SGC's census reporting, just five examples have been placed at a higher tier. Goudey honored Babe Ruth on two occasions in 1933. The first instance, familiar to all who love the hobby, is represented by the great player's quartet of cards among the company's "regular" series of baseball cards. The other, much scarcer portrayal had its origin at the conception of Sport Kings. There, the Babe took his place beside superstars from other sports and disciplines. Famous, revered athletes all, the gallery nevertheless paled when measured against the subject of the issue's #2 card. Offered is a wonderful example of that special collectible from the hallowed, one-year-only production, wherein baseball's defining personality was allowed to shine forth from the entire spectrum of competitive achievement. As was only fitting for such a high-profile appearance, Ruth's entry is exquisitely designed. His formidable figure utilizes the entire cardfront field, and is accented by a silhouette-style, ballplaying tableau, a soothing olive-green background, and a blazing red declaration of the set's title. In the case of the superior, offered specimen, these elements are crisply presented and appear virtually never-touched. Here's a beautifully preserved - and milestone Babe Ruth collectible - in commendable Near Mint to Mint condition.
