Babe Ruth Auction to Benefit Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/6/2016
Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. This is one of two examples at its tier (with none graded higher) among a total of just four copies recorded in PSA's census reporting. This American League press pass was issued to Mrs. M.C. Shaughnessy – perhaps an executive for the publication who selected reporters to cover specific games – of the Chicago Tribune. The baseball world saw a number of momentous events in 1934, and writers for the print media were treated to front-row seats for all of them. Babe Ruth reached the career 700 Home Run milestone; Lou Gehrig achieved the hitting Triple Crown; the Detroit Tigers won 101 games to take the A.L. pennant ... this pass entitled the holder to view all of that history as it was being made! A superb artifact, and an item that invites the observer to contemplate the action that it must have witnessed. Near Mint to Mint condition. Goldin Auctions will be donating 5% of the winning bid price of this lot and all lots in this auction to the Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum.
