Babe Ruth Auction to Benefit Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/6/2016
Postmarked April 5, 1934 and sent from Birmingham, Alabama under Don Heffner’s name, this unique 5 ½ x 6 ½ inch Atlanta Biltmore Hotel sheet has been signed in black fountain pen by (in order on sheet) nine members of the 1934 New York Yankees. Signatures include: Frankie Crosetti, Harry Smythe, Don Heffner, George Uhle, Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Red Rolfe, Bill Dickey and Sam Byrd. All of the signatures are clear including Ruth’s and Gehrig’s. The paper and corresponding envelope has an off-white color due to its age. The New York Yankees had their spring training home in St. Petersburg, Florida in 1934 and most likely this signed sheet was sent by Heffner, with his New York Yankees return address to the recipient “Mr. Richard Scott 261 Wyeth St. St. Helens, Oregon” on their way back to New York. The sheet has one small fold on the bottom left corner and is folded in two spots, while the envelope has some creasing. Heffner’s signature has slight smudging on his first name. This item comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA. Goldin Auctions will be donating 5% of the winning bid price of this lot and all lots in this auction to the Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum.
