Sinclair Refining Company's 1935 "Babe Ruth Baseball Contest" promotion offered its prospective lucky winners 3 Nash automobiles, 25 RCA Victor radios and 500 "Spalding National League Babe Ruth Autographed Baseballs." Presented here is one of those balls, a remarkable survivor still projecting its original, high-grade quality. This is an unused and bright off-white ONL (Frick) baseball with the legend, "Sinclair Babe Ruth Baseball Contest," stamped onto its sweet spot and one side panel decorated by a facsimile Ruth scripting. Another of the ball's clean panels, however, features a genuine and crisply inked autograph penned by the Babe. This is a seldom-seen advertising memento, with "Ruth-ian" anecdotal appeal to complement the superstar's desirable signature. LOA from PSA/DNA. Goldin Auctions will be donating 5% of the winning bid price of this lot and all lots in this auction to the Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum.
